The 4IP Group Managing Partner, Christian Kingombe, was invited to join the Technical Panel to provide support to the UNECE’s Working Party on PPPs for SDGs secretariat during the evaluation process on: i. Economic effectiveness and financial viability; and
ii. Social equity and justice.
The Technical Panel is a central feature of the PIERS Programme, which has been put in place by the UNECE secretariat as part of its technical capacity services to the member States to ensure that the PIERS methodology is uniformly applied.
The Technical Panel was be launched in early 2024, and the first batch of 40 PPP projects are expected to be evaluated in the following countries in 2024 and 2025 The PIERS Digital Platform has helped mobilize financing for the SDGs. Launched in December 2023, the PIERS (PPP and Infrastructure Evaluation and Rating System) digital platform aims to ensure that PPP and infrastructure projects have a positive impact, meet the needs of the population, and most importantly, contribute to the SDGs and a sustainable future. In just over 6 months, 93 PPP projects from 44 countries in 18 sectors for a total of $41.4 billion US dollars were assessed on the PIERS digital platform. The PIERS digital platform is freely accessible and user-friendly, allowing member States and other stakeholders to self-assess the alignment of their PPP and infrastructure projects with the SDGs using the UNECE Piers Methodology.
